Amy White Hanas - Director
Amy White Hanas, Director, is a Northwest Indiana native who determined at a young age that she wanted to be involved in the art of dance.
She began her dance education locally and continued at Indiana University with the intent of performing and taking her ability to the step of Dance Education. While at Indiana University, she performed in the Indiana University Dance Theatre for which she was also an assistant director and taught on a substitute basis.
Amy Continued her education at The American Dance Festival at Duke University and upon returning to Chicago studied with Joseph Holmes and Nana Shineflug. Her education was furthered when she studied with Birute Barodicaite, Warren Conover, and Ginger Farley at the Lou Conte Studios.
Ms. Amy continues her dance education still by studying in Chicago. It is her feeling that her further education makes her better prepared to help your children develop proper dance techniques. Amy is a certified Pilates instructor and is certified in the 200hr yoga alliance through COREPOWER Yoga. Yoga classes are also held at The Dance Gallery.
Laura Brand - Instructor
Laura Brand has studied dance with Loretta Rozak, Ruth Page, Richard Arve, Larry Long, Lou Conte, and the University of Illinois.
She has performed with The Chicago Ballet Company, Lyric Opera of Chicago. She has been a guest soloist with the Lithuanian Opera Ballet, appeared in the PBS production of "Der Fledermaus" and has performed for many years in the annual production of Ruth Page's Nutcracker.
Elizabeth Nee - Instructor
Elizabeth has danced with The Dance Gallery since she was five years old under the instruction of Amy White, Laura Brand, and Nick Pupillo. She then spent four years at Western Michigan University completing her BA in dance. At WMU Elizabeth studied ballet, jazz, and modern as well as choreography, teaching, and participating in University and Orchesis productions.
She has also taken numerous classes throughout her career at Ruth Page studying under Larry Long and Birute Barodicaite, Lou Conte Dance Studio, Visceral Dance Chicago, was on scholarship at Joel Hall Dance Center, learning from Joel Hall himself, as well as part of their second company. She performed with Tapestry Dance Company of Chicago for their 2012 season and is back with them in 2016. Elizabeth also has her 200hr yoga certification through COREPOWER Yoga.
Alex Logan - Hip Hop Instructor
Alex Logan has danced at The Dance Gallery since the age of five. She has studied under Ms. Amy, Ms. Laura, Ms. Taytum and Mr. Nick. She has taken ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical, hip hop, and has enjoyed assistant teaching in jazz and hip hop. Upon graduation from high school, Alex is grateful that she has been given the opportunity to teach hip hop.
During her limited spare time she enjoys taking hip hop, jazz, and modern at Lou Conte Dance Studios. One of her goals is to continue to audition and expand her dance horizons.
Jennifer Hlebasko- Instructor
Jennifer Hlebasko began exploring her passion for dance by studying ballet, jazz, and tap in the Chicago-land area at The Dance Gallery. She furthered her artistry by training under the direction of Nicholas Pupillo, owner and founder of Visceral Dance Center, andthen proceeded to perform with his contemporary dance studio company. She traveled around the Midwest appearing in shows such as Dance in the Park’s outreach program, Schaumberg Dance Ensemble’s performance of Aladdin, Fox Valley Dance Showcase, and Chicago Park West’s small group showcase. Jennifer also performed in Kate Jablonski’s professional dance show, "Beyond Words", at New World Stages in Manhattan. In addition to her formal training, she has done intensives with New York choreographer Sidra Bell, River North Dance Chicago, DanceWorks Chicago, Visceral Dance Chicago, and The San Francisco Conservatory of Dance. She refined her performing arts studies by pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she performed in works choreographed by faculty member Sean Curran and guest choreographer Cora Bos-Kroese, in addition to various student works. Jennifer began teaching youth classes at Visceral Dance Center this past summer and is currently training in Chicago while continuing to pursue her dance career professionally.
Lara Natonski- Instructor
Lara grew up training in dance at the Dance Gallery under the instruction of Amy White Hanas, Laura Brand, and various other artists. She has participated in multiple dance intensives around the Chicago land area such as: Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Visceral Dance Chicago. Lara began to study teaching at the Dance Gallery when she became an assistant instructor, and eventually a substitute teacher. Currently, Lara is in school studying Pre-Physical Therapy with ambitions to become a physical therapist for dancers and dance companies. She continues to train in multiple styles of dance in Chicago and is always looking for opportunities in the artistry of dance. Lara is passionate about learning and providing information about the correct technical positions of dance as well as how to care for one’s body as a dancer.
